Bürgenstock Hotels & Resort Lake Lucerne
While i’m writing this post, I’m on the train back to Geneva and I honestly feel 100% lovesick leaving Bürgenstock Hotel behind. A few decades ago, only a few lucky ones could afford, so it has been an absolute privilege being able to stay at one of the top 56 properties in the world!!
Once, the legendary cliffside retreat was the go-to escape for the European rich and famous including Hollywood stars like Audrey Hepburn and voluptuous Sophia Lauren.
The hotel fell out of fashion at the end of the last century. But after a spectacular nine-year $626 million renovation, the hotel icon is back and the appeal still holds: the new five–star superior Burgenstock Hotel offers an ultra-luxury stay high in the clouds on a sleepy part of Lake Lucerne.
Hailed as ‘The Architectural Project of the Century’, this masterpiece of modern architecture epitomises the opulence, glamour and impeccable Swiss traditions of hospitality, service and discretion.
Queen for a day
Early in the morning, we had skimmed across the satin Lake Lucerne on the resort´s private catamaran and up the fully-restored 1888 funicular directly to the lobby of the mountain top retreat.
Imagine an intensely glamorous and sophisticated resort surrounded with endless fluorescent green meadows, and snow covered mountains in the distance.
The lobby was a James Bond fantasy. I remember letting our gaze drift into the distance from the elegant cocktail lounge´s huge floor-to-ceiling windows as we sipped some Martinis. The memories of our trip turns in my head like a film reel, so amazing and incredible that I still can´t believe we stayed there for a couple of days!
Executive Panorama Lakeview Room
Our sumptuous room was out of this world! We absolutely loved the high panoramic windows which brightened the bedroom and living area, flooding them with light.
The Italian marble bathroom was equally impressive with a double panorama bathtub flanked by a double-sided fireplace and panoramic windows. Having a generous collection of Bulgaria toiletries was truly delightful.
Fresh fruit, complimentary soft drinks, and beers from the minibar along with delicious Swiss chocolates awaited us… And, guess what? These lovely treats were replenished daily.
On our first evening, Bürgenstock Hotel´s room service trolley brought by a proper fine dining server set the table with all the details for a restaurant meal in the comforts of our room.
Curling up in a robe in this intimate atmosphere lit by the flickering glow from the fireplace at the end of the day was utterly romantic.
Breakfast Time
Some of you might have noticed already I have a favorite meal of the day: breakfast! The buffet breakfast is a riot of just-baked breads & pastries, local cheeses, organic fruits, mueslis, veggies, yoghurts and cereals, laid out prettily.
The choice is endless and they spoil you with the tastiest egg dishes you can think of. Eggs Benedict and egg white frittata, are definitely worth ordering.
Spa Time
At the end of every day, we pampered ourselves at the colossal 10,000 sq m Alpine Spa– the largest in Switzerland.
We loved taking a dip in the infinity-edge pool at sunset. The sensation of being floating above the clouds on a sea of bubbles is absolutely indescribable.
Submerged in delicious 35 degree water and breathing the fresh alpine air we made a vow to return soon!
