Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Margaret Mitchell, Gone with the Wind swept the 12th Annual Academy Awards held February 12, 1940.
With its wonderful Technicolor photography and its memorable performances by Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable and Hattie McDaniel (Mammy), Gone with the Wind is regarded as one of the greatest films of all times.
Although the O´Hara family plantation was a Hollywood facade, you can see a 1941 replica at 5705 St. Charles Street. The gleaming white house with those olive green shutters, luscious garden and massive columns, perfectly resembles the beautiful Southern house from the classic film.
With a large collection of imposing antebellum mansions, magnificent gardens, elegant restaurants and antique shops, the historic Garden District is one of the most beautiful and pleasant neighbourhoods in New Orleans.
