Considered to be one of the best culinary destinations in the world, Hong Kong offers limitless venues for those searching for a memorable dining experience. From the most traditional dishes to the avant garde fusion cuisine, everything is possible in this fascinating city of contrasts.

Hong Kong´s unique blend of East and West has resulted in an impressive array of cuisines that makes the city a Gourmet Paradise. From Street food stalls to Michelin-starred restaurants, one thing´s for sure: Hong Kong´s truly a feast for all the senses!

With a need to escape the hustle of Hong Kong downtown area, we got on a bus and headed out to the charming and picturesque Aberdeen fishing village.

The stark contrast between the old and new is perfectly reflected in the Aberdeen Harbour where an impressive skyline of towering skyscrapers overlooks a community that still live in junks, sampans and old-fashion boats. This combination of modernity and old-world charm is what makes Hong Kong so spectacular.

As we leisurely walked along the promenade, we came accross the Jumbo restaurant ferry pier. It´s not everyday that you are given the opportunity of dining at the largest floating restaurant in the world so after thinking about it for a few seconds, we decided to give it a try.

When the night fell, we eagerly embarked on the free shuttle ferry to the floating restaurant. The sight by day might be impressive but at night with thousands of lights reflected on the water, was absolutely amazing. Countless vessels were tethered together in the harbour while many others patiently awaited passengers to navigate the sparkling sea.

Like an ancient Chinese imperial palace, Jumbo restaurant rose from water spectacularly illuminated. It´s not surprising it took four years and millions of dollars to design and build it. The three-decked restaurant has been featured in numerous films including James Bond “The Man With The Golden Gun” and Jackie Chan’s “The Protector” and has been frequented by dignataries and films stars like Queen Elizabeth II, Tom Cruise and John Wayne.

A walkway connects Jumbo to the colorful Tai Pak restaurant forming the iconic Jumbo Kingdom, a kind of theme park which includes a cooking academy, a Chinese tea garden and a pier plaza where visitors can have a glass of wine. Cantonese cuisine and fresh food is served at Dragon Court fine-dining restaurant or at Jumbo Chinese Restaurants. Their signature dishes include “Shark’s Fin Soup with Lobster and Cognac” and “Steamed Pork Dumpling with Shark´s Fin and Goose Liver“.

Visitors can also enjoy a relaxed al fresco dining experience at the Jumbo top deck. During the weekend, the Top Deck offers an Asian and Western brunch menu with a focus on seafood specialties at about HK400 per head.

It´s defenitely not the best restaurant in Hong Kong, there are many others more authentic and more reasonably priced. The food was bellow our expectations but the overall experience was rather good.
